Our Mission

The University Archives serves as the memory of the University of Hong Kong and the HKU Family. We collect and preserve the records of the past and present, in every format, to ensure their accessibility for our future.

Established in late 2006, the University Archives carries out its mission by collecting, preserving and creating access to the official records and publications of the University of Hong Kong. We also collect materials from other sources that are about the University and our HKU Family members. And we collect the records of individual faculty, staff or alumni who wish to donate their records to help build a better picture of who we are and what we do. Personal papers and memorabilia of HKU Family members, whose collections will help to tell the story of the University and its place in the history of Hong Kong and the world, are also welcome donations to the University Archives.

If you have questions about what is suitable to transfer to the Archives from your office or department please go to our Collection Policy.

If you have questions about giving personal papers, artifacts, or manuscript materials please go to the Giving to the Archives Page.

"Merciless order ought to prevail in archives. They are quite simply the crystallization of a wish to put the past in order."  Peter Hoeg, Smilla's Sense of Snow (1992)
