Visitor Guide

  • Please first contact the University Archives to set an appointment to come to do research as our space is limited. Please make your appointment at least 4 or 5 working days in advance. Remember that all archival materials do not circulate so you must use them inside the Archives. The opening hours for research are 9 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday.

  • Tell the archivists or assistants what you are researching in as much detail as possible - this will help them to find research materials for you more quickly. The stacks are closed to all except staff so that they must retrieve materials for you.
  • When you come to the University Archives you will need to show us your picture ID, fill out a researcher form which tells  the nature of your studies/project, and sign in the guestbook. On subsequent visits you need only sign the guest book each time.
  • You will be given a set of reading room rules to follow which you must sign after you have read them, thus agreeing to handle the items you use in a careful and clean manner which helps to preserve them.
  • We offer limited reproduction services for some of the materials and if you wish to have copies of anything you will need to fill out a request form and talk to the Archivists about the fees and getting permission for using them. The staff will also provide you with the correct citation format.
